Feast of St. Andrew, Apostle

Andrew was the brother of Peter (prince of the apostles, first pope) who announced the Gospel in Greece and was crucified on an X shaped cross.  He and Peter were the first called to be followers of Jesus Christ.

The Letter to the Romans (10: 15-17) says, ‘How beautiful are the feet of the messenger of good news (gospel).  But in fact they have not all responded to the good news.  But it is the way faith comes, from hearing, and that means from hearing the Word of God.’

This Monday of the first week of Advent we have this great Apostle whose feast we celebrate throughout the whole world.  Even though he ran away from the cross he gave his life to announce the message of Jesus Christ to the world.  The Letter to the Romans reminds us of how grateful we ought to be to those who give their life to speak to us about God.  For example, many people in your family or at school, and surely in the church have announced the love of God for you many times.  Perhaps you have not often heard this message, and God has not given up; he sends another person into your life to give the message again.  Who has he sent to you recently?

If your faith seems weak what can you do, where can you go to hear a Word of God?

Do you keep in mind and reflect on the point(s) that you heard in church this weekend?

Is there someone in your life that might be waiting to hear a word of God from you?  What would you say?
